genetic mutants

Rainbow, Victoria     13 October 2012

My work examines notions of attraction and repulsion through tensions associated with the manipulation of nature in the agricultural industry. I use drawing and microscopic imagery in the spaces of installation to explore the manipulation of positions of certainty and uncertainty, beauty and monstrous, awe and fear. By removing my work from the confines of the gallery and into the associated farming space, these installations are hoped to encourage participation and explore these concepts through the perceptions gained from the participators experiences. By using the familiar context of a crop drive and utilising the silos which have been a part of local farming history, the participators are offered the opportunity to explore the contrast between traditional farming methods and those of the future; the feelings associated with these changes enhanced through the act of eating foods associated with biotechnological manipulations in agriculture.
